What is the MCS-150 update?
Under 49 CFR § 390.19, every motor carrier with an active USDOT number must update its registration at least every 24 months. The update keeps FMCSA’s records current — fleet size, mileage, contact info, operating types — and triggers automatic deactivation if it lapses.
The schedule is determined by the last two digits of your USDOT number, not the date you got it. If your USDOT ends in 1, you update in January of odd years; ends in 2, February of even years; and so on. Hazmat carriers update via the MCS-150B; intermodal equipment providers via the MCS-150C.
